Reflections on Sacred Spaces
The Narthex of a Church

Narhex

The Origin

In early Church architecture, the Narthex was a type of porch just inside the western entrance.  At one time, it was the place for penitents.

The Emotion

The composition opens with a simple piano arrangement which is then repeated with a cello. It is tentative in its opening, not sure whether to continue. Only the cello encourages it onwards.

The Connection

At the foot of a Narthex, just outside a Church, a person may not know whether to enter or not. Perhaps they’ve never been inside a Church before or maybe the complexities of the past prevent the present encounter taking place.

Pray for the gift of wisdom and discernment, especially if you find yourself restricted by indecision. May the door of clarity be opened for you.
