The White Rose

The White Rose

To live in purity, innocence and reverence

Evokes a sense of purity, innocence and reverence

The Origin

This was to be the final rose in the album and so the title was a certainty from the start. I sat at the piano, spontaneously playing different chords contemplating on the journey of this album and all the stories and moments I had discovered along the way. It was a poignant moment as I was, in some sense, saying farewell to this season. The end of the piece purposefully waits as long as it can to end - not really wanting to say goodbye. As soon as I had settled on the structure of the piece I decided to record in the very moment of reflection that I was in. In this way I was still remembering the other pieces of music whilst playing.

The Emotion

This piece creates a sense of reflection and also reminiscing years gone by.

The Connection

A good friend mentioned to me that the White Rose was an ancient symbol of the Blessed Virgin Mary. I was completely surprised as I’d never heard that before. There are two very special verses in the Gospel of Luke for me. It is Luke 2:19 and Luke 2:51. Both of these explain that Mary pondered and kept all the things she witnessed concerning Jesus in her heart. That teaches me the art of contemplation. To dwell and be with the moments of Jesus in my heart.

Peace be with you and thank you kindly for listening.
