Rain

Rain

Trust in Divine Providence

This piece of music encourages contemplation, especially thinking about the Divine Providence of God.

The Origin

It was pouring with rain one day and I felt compelled to compose a piece of music illustrating the rain. The piece starts with a splatter of notes, signalling the starting spits of rain before it pours down in torrents. I didn’t want the piece to be too structured as rain is very free and random, sometimes pouring, sometimes drizzling. There is a moment in the piece that moves from a minor key to a major key and this conveys the sight of a rainbow.

The Emotion

This piece of music encourages contemplation, especially thinking about the Divine Providence of God.

The Connection

In the Old Testament, rain is often considered as God’s blessings, especially after a time of drought. It’s insightful to consider whether we take the rain for granted. So much of the ecosystem is dependent upon rain. I admire those who know the art and skill of being a good gardener. An excellent gardener I know tells me that not only is rain important but also how the garden and soil is prepared and nurtured to receive the rain. This forms a good allegory for Hosea 10:12 which speaks of the Lord raining down righteousness on those who prepare themselves by breaking up the ground, sowing righteousness and then reaping the fruits of unfailing love.
