Berceuse pour Maman

Berceuse pour Maman

The Assumption of Our Lady

The aim of this piece of music is to bring you to rest and peace.

The Origin

One afternoon I could sense a deep peace within me and I wanted to write a very simple lullaby. It was important that it was not complicated in its formation and that it was free to allow the person listening to rest. The piece is in two halves with the second segment introducing the harp, classical guitar and pan flute. The beautiful painting by William-Adolphe Bouguereau, Song of the Angels (1881) came to mind.

The Emotion

The aim of this piece of music is to bring you to rest and peace.

The Connection

On the 15th August, the Catholic Church celebrates the Feast of the Assumption. Whilst on pilgrimage to Italy, I gazed upon a painting depicting “The Dormition and Assumption of the Virgin”. I had never thought about the Blessed Mother falling asleep at the point of entering Heaven.  This piece of music is a meditation on this piece of art. The lullaby is for the Blessed Virgin, as if performed by the angels.
